The painter and illustrator Jan Weenink (1946) spent his childhood in the Gelderlander Valley and the Velume zoom around Ermelo. These areas form a natural biotope where a wide variety of bird species can thrive. This decor formed the foundation to develop a preference for birds. Jan Wade produced a unique collection of paintings and gouaches and in addition, he illustrated for some national and international nature magazines for use on behalf of birds and landscape studies. ² The birds depicted in this painting are undoubtedly part of the finch family, but to specify which type of bird exactly is less easy because of the many variations that exist, however it is likely that these are greenfinches.
