Johan Melse (1887-1968) - Landschap Zoutelande
Oil painting on canvas, mounted on panel, of the famous Dutch painter and graphic artist Johan Melse.
Melse was born in Goes in Zeeland (the Netherlands) in 1887 and died there in 1968.
He painted Zeeland landscapes and still lifes. He was also known for his wood carvings including many bookplates.
This design allows an area with creeks and marshes for, typical of the tidal river the Westerschelde. You can see Zoutelande in the background with the Catharina church, amongst other things.
