Complete Gurkha regiment large Kukri knife with buffalo horn blade in leather sheath, including chak-mak and karda - Nepal - 1940–1945
Original legendary weapon, Nepal, 1940–1945.
This curved Kukri knife was the tactical weapon of a soldier in the legendary British Gurkha Regiment. Traditionally forged from ferry steel, fitted in a grip of buffalo horn fitted in brass. Complete with the leather sheath, in which another two small knives are set, the chak-mak and karda, for sharpening the kukri. Length of kukri 42 cm, with a blade of 29 cm. Total length including sheath 460cm. In good used condition and razor sharp.
The British Gurka warriors, all originating from Nepal, freed the prisoners of the Japanese camp in 1945 in the then Dutch East Indies. The Gurka Regiment last came to action during the Falkland Ward in 1982, when they terrified the Argentines in the trenches. About the kukri is said that once the weapon was pulled, it needed to "taste blood" before it was retracted back into the sheath.
